BC Dairy Association (BCDA) is a not-for-profit organization funded by the dairy farmers of British Columbia. BC Dairy Association has developed and delivered leading edge nutrition education programs for many thousands of school children and health professionals, including the Elementary School Milk Program. The BCDA has an extensive focus on advertising and promotion campaigns - raising awareness of milk and driving consumption. In addition, the BCDA stays connected to the BC public through many sponsorships, community events and partnerships.
BCDA is also the voice of all dairy farmers in British Columbia. We have been advancing the legitimate business interest of BC's dairy farmers and promoting a vibrant, sustainable industry that supplies high quality dairy products to consumers. The role of the facilitator is to manage the transportation, set up, operation and clean up of the MDCE trailer at events in BC. They are responsible for working with event organizers and BCMPA staff to coordinate animals for shows, as well as maintenance and operation of equipment. A major component of the Facilitator's job involves working with the Presenters to engage the public during presentations and assist with answering inquiries. Qualified individuals will have experience with humane handling and transport practices for dairy cattle, working experience in the dairy industry, the ability to operate milking equipment and milk dairy cows. The role of the MDCE Presenter mainly focuses on executing the presentations of the MDCE. Presentations deliver information about the physiology and function of dairy cows, structure of the dairy industry in BC and allow for the public to ask questions. The Presenter works closely with the Facilitator, BCMPA and BCDF staff to organize their time at events and help with the set up and running of the MDCE at events throughout the year. The 4-H Community Events Assistant's role is to assist with executing MDCE booths at school and agricultural events around the province. The position involves providing knowledge about dairy cows and the dairy industry at public events and assisting with the set-up and tear down of booths. Although the position is best suited for a 4-H dairy member, other members will also be considered. Qualified individuals must be mature, responsible, comfortable speaking with the public and working long hours outdoors.
