What’s in Season: Winter January

A chilly winter in January still provides BC with many local products. Warm up with these ingredients & soup recipes.

Just because it’s January doesn’t mean there are no local foods. You’ll be surprised how our mild weather can still produce many foods. Don’t forget that products such as dairy (milk, cheese, yogurt), meats (chicken, beef, eggs), and greenhouse vegetables (look for Product of BC stickers) are available all year-round!

This January, look for the following foods at your local farmers’ market (yes, there are Winter markets) or grocery store and try these recipes:

VEGETABLES FRUIT HERBS SEAFOOD DAIRY
Beets Apples Rosemary Clams Cheese (platter tips)
Cabbage Kiwi Sage Crab Milk
Carrots Pears Savory Salmon Yogurt
Leeks Thyme Scallops
Potatoes Rockfish
Turnips Mussels
