Shake things up and try this creamy and refreshing afternoon pick-me-up. This invigorating, vibrant green drink is a great substitute for coffee and is also packed with antioxidants. Add tapioca pearls as the base for a fun treat.

Equipment

  • Kettle or pot
  • matcha tea whisk or small whisk to create froth
  • martini shaker

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp matcha green tea powder
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cups water
  • 1/2 cups ice
  • 1 tbsp sweetener

Instructions

Tapioca Pearls (Optional)

If using tapioca pearls as the base, start preparing for this first. Check out our tapioca pearls recipe for all the details.

Simple Syrup (Optional Sweetener)

Dilute ¾ cup granulated sugar with ¾ cup boiling water. Set aside to cool. Store in a jar with a lid until ready to use.

Iced Matcha Green Tea

  1. Mix 2 tbsp matcha powder with ½ cups boiling water, froth with a matcha tea whisk or small whisk. Set aside.

  2. In a martini shaker, combine ½ cups ice, 2 cups whole milk, ½ cup matcha green tea mix (from above), 2 tbsp simple syrup or sweetener of choice. Shake vigorously.

  3. Prepare your glasses by filling each with ½ cup of tapioca pearls (if using)

  4. Pour your matcha drink over top of the pearls and enjoy!
