Passport to Healthy Living is a 9-lesson program designed to promote and support food literacy, physical activity, planning, goal setting, and teamwork for students in grades 4 to 7. Developed by registered dietitians, Passport to Healthy Living provides teachers fun and easy- to-follow lesson plans that meet BC curriculum standards.
Filled with tasting and experiential learning opportunities, students will enjoy planning a class activity and snack, learning about balanced lifestyles, and discovering that health and wellbeing looks different for everyone. The Passport to Healthy Living program introduces students to food groups that reflect Canada’s Food Guide and provides opportunities for students to share their own food stories.
Passport to Healthy Living provides teachers with an easy-to-follow teacher guide with age-appropriate lessons, class discussion questions, and learning activities. Taught over a 9-week period, the Passport to Healthy Living program includes a teacher guide, a web of wellbeing poster, and a class set of student booklets and post-cards and can be ordered year after year at no cost. With curriculum integrations and hands-on experiences, the program supports teachers with teaching food literacy in the classroom through interactive and fun lessons.
Passport to Healthy Living is designed to fulfill outcomes in the Physical Health Education Curriculum. However, many activities throughout the program integrate into cross-curricular subject matters such as Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, Arts Education and Applied Design Skills and Technologies.
