Status update.

For almost 40 years, School Milk BC has supported schools that serve milk at least three times a week by providing educational and activity-based incentives.

School Milk BC and our incentive program will be on pause this 2021-2022 school year as we look to re-imagine the program and how we can support schools in a better way.

We thank all those who have been involved over the years for your participation in this program.

Advice and assistance will still be available throughout the year for those looking to serve milk to students. Please connect with us via email at schoolmilkbc@bcdairy.ca for further questions or comments.

Looking ahead.

BC Dairy is currently exploring other ways to support schools that want to serve milk to their students on a regular basis.

Please connect with us at   schoolmilkbc@bcdairy.ca to share your ideas of what a re-imagined School Milk BC program could be.  We look forward to hearing your thoughts and suggestions.

Why serve milk in schools?

  • Canada’s new food guide recommends milk and dairy products as part of the protein category. It also recommends white milk as a healthy drink alternative to water.
  • Children’s diets during school hours are sub-optimal, notably for dairy, according to our national Canadian Community Health Survey[1].
  • Milk and milk products are rich in protein, calcium, riboflavin and vitamin B12 — nutrients essential to good health. It is difficult to obtain your daily requirements of calcium and vitamin D without consuming milk or milk products.
  • Children who drink milk at school are more likely to meet their nutrient needs. Our current school milk program is on pause and is being reimagined.
