BC Dairy assists Chinese Canadians with another $10,000 donation on Giving Tuesday

$20,000 total donation to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. in 2020 will help feed Chinese families during the COVID-19 pandemic

Vancouver, B.C., Dec 1, 2020 – BC Dairy Association (BCDA) has made yet another $10,000 donation to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. a charitable organization that will use the funds to help provide Chinese seniors in British Columbia with healthy food and access to activities and health services. This $10,000 donation to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. is the second the association has made this year; the first gift (of $10,000) was made in May, 2020.  This time, the donation is in support of the 8th annual Giving Tuesday, a global movement for giving and volunteering, taking place each year after Black Friday.

“Supporting the community is incredibly important to dairy farmers,” says Jeremy Dunn, general manager of BC Dairy Association. “It’s a core value that we share with S.U.C.C.E.S.S., so we’re proud to support the important work they do for our local Chinese community once again this year on Giving Tuesday.

With the pandemic continuing — and holiday season fast approaching — we realize the vital role that BC dairy farmers can play in our food supply chain and in keeping our communities healthy. Seniors may be facing particular challenges in getting the food and care that they need during these challenging times, and we believe that S.U.C.C.E.S.S is the perfect partner through which we can best support this vulnerable population.”

With the help of 500 devoted staff and 1,000 volunteers, S.U.C.C.E.S.S. delivers a multitude of services to Canadians of Chinese descent. This includes helping seniors with their groceries and providing culturally relevant educational programming. “The willingness of BC’s dairy farmers to support our underfunded programs and services, specifically helping seniors and the most vulnerable in our communities, will make an immediate difference to the quality of care that they will receive,” says Queenie Choo, CEO of S.U.C.C.E.S.S. “Funding will go towards additional resources to help keep our service recipients and staff healthy and safe, especially during these challenging times. We are thrilled to have this support.”

Donating Meals For School Children Across BC
In addition to its $20,000 total donation to S.U.C.C.E.S.S. this year, BC’s dairy farmers are also supporting the Breakfast Club of Canada in an initiative to provide meals during the holiday season. From November 30 to December 27, they are partnering with select restaurants across BC to run a “Wake up to the Best” program designed to give back to communities across the province. For every special breakfast item ordered at a participating restaurant, BC dairy farmers are donating a meal to the Breakfast Club of Canada. In this way, they are helping to ensure children are getting a nutritious start to their day.
