proAction Biosecurity Rollout in BC

On September 1, 2019 Biosecurity will be rolled out on farms as the fifth pillar of proAction as implemented by Dairy Farmers of Canada (DFC). The concept behind the biosecurity pillar is to have plans and procedures in place in order to help control areas that may be identified as a hazard or a risk. Prevention is key to biosecurity.

This pillar focuses on standard operating procedures (SOPs) addressing movement of animals and authorized visitors entering your premises, assessing preventative protocols for vaccinations, biosecurity signage, and record keeping. A key requirement of this pillar is conducting a biosecurity risk assessment in conjunction with your herd veterinarian. The purpose of this requirement is to assess areas of possible improvement for biosecurity.

If you would like assistance implementing this pillar on farm or would like a hard copy of any reference material, please contact the proAction team at proAction@bcdairy.ca. A digital copy of the reference manual can be found here: https://www.dairyfarmers.ca/proaction/resources/overview.
