This easy, homemade chai has the perfect blend of spices to bring comfort into your day.


  • pot
  • mortar and pestle or rolling pin
  • bowl
  • 2 mugs


  • 1 cup (250 mL) 3% whole or 2% milk
  • 1 cup (250 mL) water
  • 2-3 tbsp (30-25 mL) sugar to taste
  • 1-3 cardamom pods
  • 2 cloves
  • 1-2 inch cinnamon stick
  • 1 black tea bag


  1. Using a mortar and pestle or end of a rolling pin, mash cardamom, cloves and cinnamon into a bowl and add this mixture into a pot with water, tea bag and sugar. Bring to a boil.
  2. Once the pot is boiling, add the milk. Allow tea to come to a boil again and remove from the heat.
  3. Using a tea strainer, pour chai into 2 mugs. Enjoy!
