BC’s dairy farmers are proud to produce high-quality, nutritious milk in accordance with some of the most stringent standards in the world. In BC, milk quality parameters, including stringent standards for antibiotic residues, bacteria, somatic cells, and water content, are overseen by the BC Ministry of Agriculture and the BC Milk Marketing Board.
All dairy farmers are licensed and inspected by the BC Ministry of Agriculture. Milk produced on Canadian farms is inspected and sampled before it is picked up at the farm. Raw milk is sampled for quality while in the farm tank and while on the truck before being unloaded at the processing plant. All milk truck drivers are trained experts in grading milk – they inspect, measure, and take samples of milk before loading it on the truck.
Providing excellent animal care is one of the most important job requirements when you are a dairy farmer.
